Batterie de Merville, Merville-Franceville

The site is very large, this is hard to represent without an aerial photo, but hopefully this goes some way towards doing so. The battery has many casements, a museum, and for the aviation enthusiast, a C-47 Skytrain (aka Dougla DC3/Dakota).

Gun placement.

Unfortunately some of the remains are flooded with quite a considerable amount of water.

There is a good audio/visual display in the museum with sound, light and smoke effects.C-

C-47 Skytrain/Dakota 315073. The plane actually took part in Operation Market Garden, as immortalised in the film A Bridge Too Far. After the war, the plane was sold to a Czechoslovakian airline and refitted as a civilian Douglas DC-3. The plane was found in Sarajevo, Bosnia and returned to Normandy recently. The plane has a quite amazing history that you can read about here.
